Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop Larry Silva, 76, from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Honolulu, and has appointed Reverend Michael T. Castori, SJ, as Bishop-elect of Honolulu.
Both have deep roots in the Diocese of Oakland: Bishop Silva was ordained priest for the Diocese in 1975 and actively served for 30 years within the various parishes and in different capacities including Vocations Director and Vicar General; while Bishop-elect Castori served as Vicar for Clergy for the Diocese of Oakland from 2021 to 2025, while staying at All Saint Church in Hayward, CA.
Let us pray for these men who are models for us of dedicated service and love for their people.
